Artist Statment

rag: a fragment of material
button: an embellishment
 
Combined, these words embody the essence of rag button.  Each piece is a fusion of fragments of material and embellishments such as buttons, beads and felt flowers.  Each piece is distinctive and stylish, simple but decorative.

Heather works from her studio in Ballycarry a small rural village just outside Carrickfergus.  Her work featured in the Smithsonian Folklife festival in Washington D.C. in the summer of 2007, as part of Rediscover Northern Ireland.  

Inspiration for Heather’s works comes from historic samplers and a play with the materials.
